What should I do with my new tank?

5.5 gallon tank. Heater and sponge filter. Will be planted. Should I get a white Plakat or cherry red shrimp. (got this tank today so it will have to cycle before I do anything). I have two other Betta tanks. But I don't have my white Betta yet. They say it could be next season before they get any. Should I set this tank up as a Red cherry tank and then set that tank up when they do get them in?
